About the event
From April 24 to October 6, 2025, MoMA PS1 presents The Gatherers, a compelling group exhibition that explores how contemporary artists engage with the material and ideological excesses of our time. Featuring 14 international artists, many making their U.S. museum debut, the show examines waste, decay, and systemic failure through the lens of installation, assemblage, painting, video, and performance.
As globalization and neoliberal policies leave legacies of broken infrastructure and cultural fragmentation, these artists turn to rummaging, retooling, and repurposing—not only of physical matter, but of historical memory and spatial politics. The Gatherers offers a meditation on how detritus becomes both medium and message.
Exhibition highlights:
Works by Karimah Ashadu, Geumhyung Jeong, Miho Dohi, Klara Liden, and others
Spatialized critiques of power, labor, and environmental collapse
Assemblage and sculpture made from found objects and industrial waste
