About the event
From April 24 to October 6, 2025, MoMA PS1 presents Este quarto parece uma República! (This Bedroom Looks Like a Republic!), the first museum exhibition of interdisciplinary Angolan artist Sandra Poulson. This immersive installation brings together assemblage works made from garments and domestic furniture, transforming the gallery into a layered reflection on identity, memory, and nation-building in postcolonial Angola.
Poulson’s practice fuses fashion, sculpture, and historical excavation, exploring the tensions between personal space and political symbol. Drawing on Angolan cultural codes, oral traditions, and postwar realities, she constructs objects that both document and critique the transnational residue of conflict and colonial legacy.
Exhibition highlights:
A room-sized installation combining textiles, furniture, and sculptural forms
An archaeological approach to symbols of Angolan identity and transformation
Dialogues around civil conflict, domesticity, and cultural reinvention
