Launching Fall 2025, VENUS VICTORIA by celebrated British artist Sarah Lucas will be the inaugural public sculpture installed in the New Museum’s newly designed plaza at Bowery and Prince Street, part of its OMA-led expansion.
This powerful artwork will be on view for two years, standing as a commanding tribute to women claiming space in civic and cultural life. Known for her provocative, witty explorations of gender, power, and identity, Lucas turns her incisive gaze to the role of female form and authority in the public realm.
Commissioned through the Wrigley Sculpture Award—a groundbreaking biennial prize supporting new sculptural work by women artists—VENUS VICTORIA is the first of five planned commissions over the next decade. The artist was selected by a prestigious all-artist jury:Teresita Fernández, Joan Jonas, Julie Mehretu, Cindy Sherman, and Kiki Smith.
