Masters at Work III brings together two iconic works that celebrate the power of music and movement in ballet. Jerome Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering (1969) evokes the emotional resonance of Chopin’s piano music through a spellbinding vision of community. Featuring a mixture of solos, pas de deux, and collective dances, Robbins captures the delicacy and depth of Chopin’s waltzes, études, and nocturnes, often inflected with folk-inspired movement.
Sharing the program is George Balanchine’s majestic Diamonds, the sumptuous culmination of his three-part ballet Jewels. Set to Tschaikovsky’s music, Diamonds exemplifies the grandeur and beauty of classical ballet at its most enthralling and enduring. The piece, originally created in 1967, remains one of Balanchine’s most beloved and celebrated works.
