Contemporary Choreography I presents a compelling program that highlights the innovative spirit of four distinguished choreographers:
Voices: Choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky, this enigmatic and experimental work features virtuosic solos set to vocal recordings of six influential women, including Nina Simone and painter Agnes Martin, overlaid with piano composition. The piece culminates in a powerful ensemble movement, reflecting Ratmansky's profound exploration of voice and movement.
Composer’s Holiday: Gianna Reisen's ensemble work showcases the friendly relationships between its ten dancers, reflecting the capricious changes in mood—from exuberant to romantic to elegiac—echoing the evolving dynamics of Lukas Foss's score for piano and violin.
Herman Schmerman Pas de Deux: William Forsythe's genre-stretching pas de deux has regularly returned to the repertory since its creation over three decades ago. The piece is known for its angular choreography and dynamic partnering, set to Thom Willems' electronic score.
