About the event
Balanchine + Ratmansky presents a captivating evening that bridges classical traditions with contemporary interpretations.
Serenade: Choreographed by George Balanchine in 1935, Serenade is his first ballet created in the United States. Set to Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, the ballet is renowned for its sweeping movements and emotional depth, capturing the essence of romanticism through its depiction of dancers in a moonlit landscape.
The Prodigal Son: Premiering in 1929, this dramatic work by Balanchine is set to Prokofiev's score and tells the biblical story of a young man's journey of self-discovery, betrayal, and redemption. The ballet is celebrated for its powerful narrative and expressive choreography.
Paquita: Alexei Ratmansky's reconstruction of Marius Petipa's 1881 ballet Paquita combines the original Grand Pas with Balanchine's 1951 Minkus Pas de Trois. This fusion creates a vibrant and technically demanding piece that pays homage to classical traditions while infusing them with new vitality.
