About the event
All Balanchine III brings together three exceptional works by George Balanchine, including the rare revival of his 1945 ballet Symphonie Concertante, which has not been performed by the company since 1952. Set to Mozart’s music, this piece features two ballerinas dancing separately to the violin and viola passages, accompanied by a corps de ballet of 22 women. Its return is a significant event, showcasing Balanchine’s delicate treatment of Mozart’s music through expressive movement.
Joining Symphonie Concertante are two celebrated works set to Igor Stravinsky’s music, one of Balanchine's favorite composers. Agon, a Black & White leotard ballet, exemplifies the purity of neoclassical ballet with its intricate partnering and angular movements. Firebird follows, offering a lavish and fantastical tale of love and triumph, featuring lush choreography and vibrant imagery.
