About the event
All Balanchine II showcases the versatility and genius of NYCB's founder, George Balanchine. This program features three distinct works that span over three decades of his choreographic career:
Square Dance: Set to music by Antonio Vivaldi and Arcangelo Corelli, this ballet is a lively and technically challenging piece, offering brilliant solos and ensemble dances that highlight Balanchine's flair for musicality and precision.
Episodes: Choreographed to Anton von Webern's avant-garde music, Episodes is a four-part work that explores the complexities of human emotion and interaction through minimalist choreography.
Western Symphony: In this one-act version of the classic tale, Balanchine distills the essence of the mythical story, focusing on the rapture and heartache of the doomed lovers, set to Tchaikovsky's evocative score.
This program offers a comprehensive look at Balanchine's classical mastery and his ability to convey a range of emotions and styles through dance.
