About the event
All Bach celebrates the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach through two seminal ballets by NYCB's founding choreographers. The evening opens with Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco (1941), set to Bach’s Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins. This ballet exemplifies Balanchine’s energy and ingenuity, with two lead ballerinas personifying the solo violins, supported by a male partner and a small female corps. The ballet’s delicate and intricate choreography mirrors the beauty and complexity of Bach’s music.
Next, Jerome Robbins’ The Goldberg Variations (1971) explores Bach’s celebrated keyboard composition in a remarkable display of creativity and mastery. Robbins finds boundless variety in Bach’s work, creating a ballet that explores different moods and textures through movement. The ballet is a testament to Robbins’ ability to capture the essence of music and translate it into the visual language of ballet.
