What if code could feel like paint?In Light, artist Rafaël Rozendaal brings his groundbreaking web-based animations into the physical realm, scaling up the browser into a nearly 25-foot screen at MoMA. Since the early 2000s, Rozendaal has worked at the intersection of art and code, creating self-contained websites that move, pulse, and breathe—each one a looping, algorithmic universe made from just a few kilobytes.
Each piece begins not with software, but with paper—storyboards that Rozendaal translates into lines of code, giving shape to artworks that are resolution-independent and built to withstand the fast evolution of digital media. These animations, normally viewed on personal devices, are here magnified to architectural scale—turning MoMA’s space into a luminous portal where digital abstraction merges with physical experience.
