New York has been everything on screen—hero, villain, backdrop, and star. You Are Here, a landmark exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York, invites you into the cinematic soul of the city. Spanning over a century of film history, this immersive installation features dazzling montages drawn from Hollywood blockbusters, indie gems, documentaries, and experimental works—all stitched together across 16 synchronized screens.
The exhibition captures how directors have told New York’s stories from every angle: gritty realism and romantic fantasy, hard-hitting social commentary and iconic skyline shots. The central immersive gallery creates a panoramic viewing experience, connecting scenes across genres and decades—from The French Connection to Moonlight, from King Kong to Do the Right Thing—revealing how each film reflects a unique, imagined version of the city.
