About the event
New York at Its Core is a bold, immersive exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York that explores the driving forces behind the city’s rise—from a small Dutch settlement to a global metropolis. Organized around four defining themes—money, diversity, density, and creativity—the exhibition brings New York’s story to life through powerful human narratives, dynamic artifacts, and state-of-the-art interactive displays.
Spanning four centuries, the exhibition highlights iconic figures such as Alexander Hamilton, Emma Goldman, Walt Whitman, JP Morgan, Jane Jacobs, and Jay Z, alongside lesser-known but equally impactful characters like Lenape chieftain Penhawitz and Susie Rocco of the Lower East Side. Even animals like beavers, pigs, and oysters make appearances as key players in shaping the city’s economy and culture.
Featuring nearly 450 historic objects, photographs, and cutting-edge digital installations, New York at Its Core invites you not only to revisit the past but to imagine your own version of the city’s future. It’s…
