Event Overview From January 22 to 24, 2026, the New York Philharmonic hosts an evening of boundary-pushing compositions, featuring the electrifying Yuja Wang as soloist and visionary Thomas Adès as both conductor and composer. This performance is not just a concert — it’s an exploration of music’s emotional and philosophical depth across continents and centuries.
At the heart of the program is Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a seldom-heard, fiercely expressive work that invites both introspection and awe — tailor-made for Wang’s fearless command of the keyboard. Complementing it is Kaija Saariaho’s Oltra mar, a haunting meditation on memory and mortality, filled with ethereal textures.
