About the event

Event Overview

From October 23 to 25, 2025, the New York Philharmonic presents a stirring and emotionally rich program at David Geffen Hall that pairs Romantic drama with cinematic lyricism. Venezuelan conductor Diego Matheuz makes his NY Phil debut with a vibrant performance that opens with Inocente Carreño’s Margariteña, a tribute to his and the composer’s shared heritage, rooted in the traditional melodies of Venezuela.

NY Phil Concertmaster Frank Huang then takes center stage in Korngold’s Violin Concerto, a sweeping and virtuosic work that draws on the composer’s acclaimed film scores—bringing a golden-age Hollywood brilliance into the concert hall. The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, a deeply expressive piece tracing an arc from foreboding fate to an ambiguous yet hard-fought victory.

Program

  • Inocente Carreño – Margariteña

  • Korngold – Violin Concerto
