About the event
Event Overview From October 9 to 11, 2025, the New York Philharmonic presents a transformative concert event at David Geffen Hall—Salonen Conducts Boulez & Bartók—merging cutting-edge orchestral performance with immersive choreography by Benjamin Millepied and the L.A. Dance Project.
At the heart of the program is the New York Premiere of a reimagined production of Pierre Boulez’s Rituel in memoriam Bruno Maderna—described by The New Yorker as “the most sensuously appealing score of Boulez’s career.” This powerful tribute, co-commissioned with l’Orchestre de Paris and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is brought vividly to life through Millepied’s choreography and Salonen’s unmistakable command.
Complementing this are two works Boulez famously championed during his tenure as NY Phil Music Director: Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, a vibrant, kaleidoscopic masterpiece that showcases every section of the orchestra, and Stravinsky’s Octet, a neoclassical gem for winds.
Program
Stravinsky – Octet for Wind Instruments
Bartók – Concerto for Orchestra
