About the event
Event Overview
A celebration of sonority, breath, and chamber-scale grandeur awaits as Louis Langrée takes the podium at Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall on January 2–3, 2026. This refined program, led by the esteemed French conductor, presents two exceptional works that honor the expressive power of the wind ensemble.
The concert opens with Richard Strauss’s Serenade in E-flat major, an astonishing work of melodic maturity composed at just 17 — already bearing the fingerprints of the great Romantic to come. The evening culminates with Mozart’s Gran Partita, a seven-movement serenade that elevates wind writing to symphonic scope. Sometimes stately, often dance-like, always sublime — this is Mozart in rare and radiant form.
With Langrée’s elegant musical sensibility and the New York Philharmonic’s impeccable winds, this intimate concert offers an ideal way to immerse yourself in the poetic subtlety of Classical and early Romantic repertoire.
