About the event
Event Overview From October 15 to 21, 2025, the New York Philharmonic presents a captivating program led by Grammy-winning conductor Jeannette Sorrell, a celebrated specialist in early music. Held at the Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall, this concert elegantly bridges the brilliance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges—two contemporaries whose works radiate invention, grace, and dramatic flair.
Mozart’s La finta semplice Overture, composed at the astonishing age of 12, opens the evening, while his beloved Symphony No. 40—a pinnacle of Classical expression—closes it. The program also highlights Principal Clarinetist Anthony McGill, featured in Bologne’s Concerto in A major (arranged by Derek Bermel), and soprano Sonya Headlam, performing lyrical arias by both composers.
This performance offers a richly textured musical dialogue between two 18th-century geniuses, brought to life by today’s leading interpreters of the Classical tradition.
