About the event
Event Overview From November 26 to 29, 2025, the New York Philharmonic invites audiences to Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall for a deeply evocative program that bridges the mythic, the natural, and the rarely performed. Under the baton of Stéphane Denève, this concert presents orchestral soundscapes that soar with imagination and atmosphere.
The evening opens with the New York Premiere of Lera Auerbach’s Icarus, a poetic meditation on ambition and transcendence. Then, world-renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, known for his radiant style and artistic range, takes the stage for Khachaturian’s Piano Concerto—a bold and rarely heard work that combines Eastern flavor, romantic lyricism, and rhythmic dynamism.
The program continues with Rautavaara’s Cantus Arcticus, a serene and haunting “Concerto for Birds and Orchestra,” incorporating real Arctic birdsong recordings. Finally, Respighi’s Pines of Rome closes the evening with one of the most vivid orchestral portraits ever composed—an ode to the Eternal City through four stunning symphonic scenes.
