About the event
Event Overview
From March 5 to March 7, 2026, the New York Philharmonic welcomes back the visionary Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla to Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall, for a concert of emotional grandeur and profound lyricism. The spotlight shines on acclaimed violinist Vilde Frang, who brings a deeply expressive interpretation of Edward Elgar’s Violin Concerto — a rarely performed masterpiece that unfolds like a secret diary of the soul.
In honor of György Kurtág’s 100th birthday, the program includes Brefs messages, an intricate, whispering tapestry of miniature movements by one of the most introspective composers of our time.
The concert culminates in a jubilant seasonal awakening with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 1, the “Spring” Symphony — a radiant celebration filled with bold brass fanfares and pastoral serenity. Under Gražinytė-Tyla’s baton, the work blossoms into a finale of ecstatic renewal.
