From April 8 to 10, 2026, the New York Philharmonic presents a program of vivid emotional depth and sonic exploration at Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall. Guided by conductor Kwamé Ryan, this luminous evening brings together operatic richness, American introspection, and contemporary brilliance.
Internationally celebrated soprano Golda Schultz takes center stage with Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, a tender, nostalgic portrait of childhood set to prose by James Agee. Schultz’s radiant artistry also brings poignant life to Stravinsky’s operatic aria No Word from Tom and Carlisle Floyd’s deeply stirring The Trees on the Mountain.
The program opens with Charles Ives’s The Unanswered Question — a philosophical and spatial meditation on existence that remains one of the most compelling works of the American canon.
