About the event
Event Overview From December 3 to 6, 2025, the New York Philharmonic honors New York City’s 400th anniversary with a concert that radiates with the energy, charm, and soul of its hometown. Making his NY Phil debut, Gustavo Gimeno leads this jubilant program at Wu Tsai Theater, David Geffen Hall—a musical celebration of the city's cultural legacy.
The evening opens with Leonard Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, capturing the electric pulse of 1940s New York through vibrant rhythms and theatrical flair. Renowned pianist Hélène Grimaud then brings her poetic brilliance to George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, a work that fuses jazz, blues, and classical finesse in a soundscape evocative of Manhattan’s golden age.
The program closes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World—written during his time in New York and infused with the richness of American musical influences and the composer's nostalgic longing for home.
