About the event
This spring, the Design auction on 12 June features masterful designs by architects and artists from the last 180 years. Leading this season is the important Tiffany Studios Goddard Memorial Window, from 1909–10, Sold to Benefit the St Luke’s Episcopal Church, East Greenwich, Rhode Island, Endowment and the Mission of its Community. The first half of the 20th century transformed the design lexicon with luxurious designs by Jean Dunand, Paul Dupré-Lafon and Pierre Chareau. The French post-war era is further represented by iconic furniture and lighting by Jean Royère and Jean Prouvé.
Works by Alberto and Diego Giacometti are showcased within the sale by Property from an Important New York Collection, including the ‘Tête de femme’ and ‘Osselet’ floor lamps. The Surrealist movement further stirred François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne, whose works, coming from several private collections, are showcased in the auction, including L’enveloppement d’Europe and Le Métaphore (Canard-Bateau).
