About the event

This Fall 2025, the New Museum’s Atrium Stair becomes home to a stunning, site-specific commission by Klára Hosnedlová, marking her first-ever U.S. museum project.

Inspired by Eastern Bloc architecture and centuries-old craft traditions, Hosnedlová’s installation features a sandstone and glass sculpture enveloped by a flax-based textile reminiscent of pelted forms. Intricate hand-embroidered details, a hallmark of her practice, explore the complex entanglement of gender, labor, and historical memory in visually arresting form.

This monumental staircase work is viewable from the Lobby up through the Fourth Floor, creating a layered, multi-sensory journey for museumgoers ascending or descending the New Museum’s iconic interior.

Curated by Gary Carrion-Murayari and Calvin Wang, and made possible through an ongoing partnership with Kvadrat, the Danish textile powerhouse, this exhibition redefines materiality and symbolism in contemporary sculpture.
