About the event
Since its founding in 1976, MoMA PS1 has served not only as a museum but as a canvas for artists, inviting bold architectural and site-specific interventions that shape how visitors move through and feel the space. Artist Interventions is a living exhibition—an evolving skin of artworks that speak to PS1’s identity as a place of experimentation, resistance, and community memory.
From James Turrell’s meditative Skyspace Meeting, to Rirkrit Tiravanija’s activist mural, and Pipilotti Rist’s lava-floor whisper, these works span decades and disciplines, remaining permanently embedded in the museum’s stairwells, halls, courtyards, and corners.
Exhibition highlights include:
James Turrell’s Meeting (1986): a skyspace and light installation inviting contemplative stillness (Floor 3)
Richard Artschwager’s blps and Exit: subtle gestures redirecting visual attention (Throughout & Floor 1)
William Kentridge’s Stair Procession: a chalk-like mural evoking movement and memory (Floor 3, Stair B)
