Alicja Kwade’s first solo exhibition at Pace New York, Telos Tales, is a monumental exploration of time, material transformation, and the invisible frameworks that define human perception. Coinciding with Frieze New York 2025, this immersive showcase introduces new large-scale sculptures and mixed media works, reflecting Kwade’s signature interplay between science, philosophy, and poetic form.
At the core of the exhibition are three towering sculptures, where powder-coated steel evolves into fluid bronze branches—each named after Aristotle’s theory of causes: Causa Materialis, Causa Efficiens, and Causa Formalis. The mysterious fourth cause—Causa Finalis, or telos—hints at purpose without defining it, allowing the viewer to complete the narrative.
The standout installation, PhaseChase, suspends a double-sided mirrored clock in midair, blurring past and future into a multiplying illusion. It’s not just an artwork—it’s a philosophical rupture in space-time.
