This fall, the Grey Art Museum at NYU presents June Leaf: Shooting from the Heart, a sweeping and deeply personal retrospective celebrating one of America’s most enigmatic and unconventional artists. Running from September 9 to December 13, 2025, the exhibition marks the most comprehensive look at Leaf’s work in over 30 years, tracing a career that spanned seven decades and defied artistic categorization.
Known for her kinetic sculptures, theatrical figures, and dreamlike drawings, Leaf’s work blends mythology, urban life, and human drama with a fierce spirit of play, rebellion, and introspection.
Exhibition features include:
Works from Leaf’s personal archive, alongside select institutional and private loans
Paintings, drawings, and kinetic/stationary sculptures, presented in thematic conversation
Exploration of key motifs: movement, gender, performance, mythology, and interpersonal tension
