About the event
Event Overview Open through January 4, 2026, Life at the Limits: Nature’s Superheroes at the American Museum of Natural History showcases the extraordinary species that stretch the boundaries of what life on Earth can do. From deep-sea hunters and sky-soaring divers to organisms that survive cosmic radiation, this exhibition brings together Earth’s most extreme biological adaptations in an awe-inspiring display.
Spanning millions of years of evolution, the show highlights species both familiar and fantastically bizarre—each evolved to breathe, reproduce, move, and hunt in extraordinary ways. Walk alongside a life-sized 20-foot southern elephant seal, meet a microscopic tardigrade scaled up to 10 feet, and witness glowing reef life synchronizing under moonlight.
